Niels and I went shopping today at downtown. When I saw many UK high street brands, I felt that England was not that far away. :P
Unlike the cow in the picture, I didn't wear pearl necklace or shopped my way through the department store, but when I walked inside Bijenkorf (the dutch version of Harrods?), my soul was cheering for the rich variety, for the stimulation of materialism and capitalism. Being a girl from a big city, I have always claimed that I enjoyed my student life on a closed campus (been in boarding school most of my life), or small towns with little distraction. But today I realized that the about-to-be working girl was ready to embrace her new life in a cosmopolitan!
Surprisingly, Amsterdam is also suitable for those who desire a relaxing moment. We went to Henri Willig, a cheese store where they offered many samples of exotic flavors. I tried smoked goat cheese (Niels thought it tasted like smoked eel), chilly cheese, gouda cheese of pesto flavor, and some cheese tasted heavenly with sweet mustard!-definitely going to buy some for my housewarming party, and will also take non-Asian friends there! (insider tip: Asians are not usually passionate about cheese)
On our way to lunch, saw a cat in front of a cafe-Are you also enjoying a rare sunny and warm day in the good'n'old Amsterdam?
